Lithuania―circa 1941: An embittered elderly Shomer, a religious watchman responsible for guarding the souls of the dead before their burial, comes face-to-face with his long lost first love Leah when her dead body is wheeled into the morgue one fateful night. Time melts as he relives their days and nights spent hiding in a barn in Lithuania, fighting for survival as World War Two rages around them. Brought together in these extreme circumstances, what starts as mistrust develops into love, marriage and ultimately murder. In the end, the Shomer is able to find peace after a lifetime of regret by fulfilling a promise he made to the young Leah on their last night together. ~ Naomi Jaye. THE PIN is the first Yiddish film to be made in Canada, and was partly inspired by the writer/director’s late grandmother, Leah, whose personal phobia formed the core of this moving story.

This evening, for the summer ball, three friends have the brilliant idea of ​​“dressing up” as firefighters to flirt with girls. Panicker (Madhu) is an honest Public Works Department engineer who assiduously resists offers of bribes by an assortment of local building contractors. Panicker's one ambition is to see his son, Unni (Mammootty) succeed in medical school. Unni and his friends (Mohanlal et al) set up a "house of sin" right behind the college. The other boys are from wealthy families, to keep up with them, Unni starts by stealing from his parents, eventually taking bribes on his father's behalf without his knowledge. In the process, he alienates his father and gets thrown out of home, leaving his mother (Srividya) and cousin/girlfriend (Poornima) torn between the two men. The film equates bribery and debauchery with western popular culture influences - which was a fairly common theme across films in Hindi and Tamil as well around that time.

Quant à Nicole, leur fille de 20 ans, plus ouverte et mieux renseignée, elle tente, avec son ami Christian, de faire voir à ses parents l'envers de la médaille, de les informer sur leur temps. En famille, on discute sans arrêt de tout et de rien, sans crainte de professer des énormités sur des sujets qu'en fin de compte, on maîtrise plutôt mal. Qu'un visiteur se présente, qu'un incident surgisse, et voilà le moulin à discours qui se met en branle.
